CHENNAI: The depression in the Bay of Bengal is stationary and is likely to bring in more rain to coastal Tamil Nadu in the next few days. After pouring almost continuously since 8.30am on Tuesday, there was a breather as the city woke up on Wednesday with the heavy rain turning into a mild drizzle and stopping completely.
Residents woke up to see the actual damage to their belongings and many areas were flooded during to overnight rain as well as flooding of Adyar river following release at the rate of 30,000 cusecs from the Chembarambakkam lake.

“The trough is stationary and is likely to bring in more widespread rain in the coming days. There is a breather for residents since Wednesday morning as there is delay in the formation of rain cloud but this is only temporary and more rain is likely in the coming days,” said a senior Met department official.
In the last 24 hours ending 8.30am on Wednesday, Nungambakkam observatory has recorded 29.4cm of rainfall and Meenambakkam 34.5cm. T he bridge connecting Nandanam and Kotturpuram has been closed due to flood in Adyar River.
